TotalBoat Legacy Gel Polyurethane is a hand-rubbed, oil-based, clear wipe-on finish designed for interior wood surfaces. It enhances the natural grain and color of wood while building a smooth, durable satin finish. Ideal for furniture, cabinetry, antiques, and woodworking projects where a heritage-quality appearance is desired.

Surface Preparation
Bare Wood
- Wood must be clean, dry, and free of dust, grease, oil, wax, water, or contaminants.
- Ideal moisture content: 6–8% (below 10% acceptable).
- Do not apply to wood with high moisture content—may cause blistering or delamination.
- Sand with 220-grit sandpaper in direction of grain.
- Remove dust by vacuum.
- Wipe with lint-free rag dampened with approved solvent.
- Allow solvent to fully evaporate before application.
Previously Coated Surfaces
- Strip coatings in poor condition.
- Only apply to sound coatings without peeling or cracking.
- Wash with soap and water and rinse thoroughly.
- Sand with 320-grit sandpaper in direction of grain.
- Remove residue with solvent wipe and allow to dry.

Teak
- Teak in good condition has a golden tone.
- Gray/weathered teak must be cleaned with TotalBoat Teak Cleaner.
- Allow minimum 48 hours drying time.
- Ensure moisture content is within acceptable range.
- Then follow bare wood preparation steps.
Epoxy Surfaces
- Allow epoxy to cure 5–7 days.
- Wash with soap and water to remove amine blush.
- Rinse and dry completely.
- Sand with 320-grit sandpaper.
- Remove residue with solvent wipe.
- Allow solvents to evaporate completely.
Application Conditions
- Apply between 60–85°F
- Relative humidity below 70%
- Optimal: 70°F and 50% humidity
- Avoid direct sunlight, wind, dew, fog, or precipitation
Application
- Stir thoroughly before use.
- Apply using clean, soft, lint-free cotton rag only.
- Apply to one section at a time.
- Spread evenly, then work into grain while removing excess.
- Buff with clean rag using light pressure.
- Close lid immediately after use to prevent skinning.
- Dry to touch in approximately 5 hours.
- Minimum recoat time: 6 hours (must be tack-free).
- Apply minimum of 2 coats; more coats improve richness.
Between Coats
- Sanding not required between coats.
- If sanding is needed:
- Wait 24 hours
- Sand with 320–400 grit
- Remove residue with clean rag
- Avoid solvents before recoating
Cure Time
- Allow minimum 24 hours before use
Coating Maintenance
- Light cleaning: wipe with dry microfiber cloth.
- Deeper cleaning: damp rag with mild soap, dry immediately.
- For repairs:
- Mask area
- Sand with 220-grit
- Apply 1–2 coats
- Remove masking
- Blend with 320–400 grit sanding
- Apply final coat to entire section
Warning
RAGS, STEEL WOOL, AND WASTE MAY SPONTANEOUSLY COMBUST. IMMEDIATELY PLACE IN WATER-FILLED METAL CONTAINER.
