Wood sealers, such as Semco, Owatrol Deks Olje, and TotalBoat Danish Teak Sealer, are great at protecting and sealing wood to enhance the natural wood grain appearance, without leaving a film on the wood. You will find that teak sealers are generally linseed oil based, with UV resistance, mildewcides, and sometimes a colorant. For best results, these products recommend cleaning with a teak cleaner, and sanding the wood until smooth. But how do the different color options look?
Semco Teak Sealer comes in five color tones: Cleartone, Natural, Goldtone, Honeytone, and Classic Brown. All products will leave a natural matte finish and retain wood grain tonal depth.
Cleartone contains no pigment, looks like oil, & isn't as weather resistant as the other shades. | Natural imparts a golden-tan glow that resembles slightly weathered teak. | Goldtone produces the reddish-brown luster of teak that has been freshly sanded. | Honeytone imparts a rich honey color resembling new teak. Popular for furniture. | Classic Brown is a darker brown color similar to the color of wet teak. |
Owatrol Deks Olje D.1 is primarily an oil sealer that leaves a natural oil-on-wood tonal appearance and becomes a matte finish once it is absorbed. This product is unique in that it can be blended or overcoated with Deks Olje D.2 (a varnish), forming a film on the surface, and adding a gloss finish to the final product.
TotalBoat Danish Teak Sealer is absorbed into the teak, imparting a natural gold tone similar to freshly sanded teak, while allowing the natural grain tones to stand out.
