Underwater metal parts such as running gear, props, shafts, trim tabs, outdrives, and lower outboard gear should never be coated with bottom paint containing copper because copper causes a galvanic action that pits the metal.
Instead, use a copper-free bottom paint such as TotalBoat Krypton, Interlux Pacifica, Pettit ECO HRT, or Pettit Hydrocoat ECO, which replace copper with Econea™ as their biocide.
We recommend that you prime with an epoxy barrier coat such as TotalBoat TotalProtect, Interlux 2000E, or Pettit Protect for better adhesion of the bottom paint.
Copper-free bottom paint choices for props and shafts include OceanMax Propspeed, Pettit Prop Coat Barnacle Barrier, and TotalBoat Outdrive AF Barnacle Barrier Spray.
IMPORTANT: When painting underwater metals, do not paint any zincs or sacrificial anodes.
