It's important to always follow the launch times listed by the specific paint manufacturer. Most bottom paints can be launched in a minimum of 12 to 24 hours after application. Some ablative bottom paints dry more slowly, have longer overcoating intervals, and require launching within two weeks of applying. Again, always refer to the manufacturer's recommended launch times.
Some copolymer ablative bottom paints dry faster, have shorter overcoating times, and allow launching up to 18 months after painting (for multi-season paints). Always check the manufacturer's directions for details.
A hull coated with a multi-season ablative can be pulled and left out of the water up to two weeks and relaunched without scuffing to reactivate the paint's antifouling properties. If the boat is relaunched after two weeks, lightly sand or scuff the bottom paint with a Scotch-Brite™ pad before relaunching.
