TotalBoat Wet Edge topside paint can only be applied to TotalBoat Polyester Structural Repair Putty once the putty has been fully cured and prepared according to the directions for Wet Edge topside paint. Polyester Structural Repair Putty does not contain wax, or any air-dry additives, so after it is catalyzed and applied, it must be cured with polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), applying a paraffin wax to the surface, covering the surface with plastic sheeting, or otherwise prevent the ambient air from coming in contact with the putty. Once fully cured to a hard material, any such wax, PVA, or other air dry material must be appropriately removed from the Polyester Structural Repair putty, and then it must be sanded according to the directions for TotalBoat Wet Edge, prior to applying paint.
This is an unconventional application method, as TotalBoat Polyester Structural Repair Putty is very difficult to sand to a smooth surface, which would be required for a good paint finish. Instead, TotalBoat Polyester Fairing Compound is the preferred material for fairing after any structural repairs are completed, due to how easy it is to sand and work.
