There are a few different paint directions for boat deck paint. It should be understood that each option will have its advantages and disadvantages over the other products.
There are 1-part air-dry paints such as TotalBoat TotalTread, Interlux Interdeck, Evercoat Skid-No-More and Pettit EZ-Decks, which come with the non-skid media mixed in. These paints come in the most common deck colors, and are also lower in sheen to reduce the tendency of being slippery when wet, as well as reducing solar glare.
Another option is to use a paint system such as Awlgrip or Quantum 99 and add a desired non-skid media and flattening agent to achieve a desired finish. Jon boat decks are commonly painted with products like Sea Hawk Aluma Hawk or TotalBoat Aluminum Boat Paint with an added non-skid media. Brands such as SoftSand, Interlux, Pettit, Epifanes, Quantum, and Awlgrip make a wide variety of non-skid options, each with their own advantages.
KiwiGrip non-skid deck coating is a thicker paint that is designed for use with their proprietary paint roller cover, which leaves a stapled, textured surface.
