TotalBoat Thixo adhesive cartridges do not need to be used up completely when they are opened, but there are a few tricks that will make the cartridge easier to use the next time you need it. All Thixo cartridges are mechanically metered internally, and dispense each component at the required rate, no matter how much is dispensed at a time. This applies to Thixo, Thixo Pro, Thixo Fast Cure, Thixo LV (low viscosity), Thixo Wood, Thixo Flex, and TotalBoat Aluminum Boat Leak Sealer.
When dispensing with a static mixing tip: The easiest way to go about using and effectively storing the cartridge for next time is to simply leave the static mixing tip on the cartridge after it is used, and allow the epoxy in the tip to cure. This method will not 'glue' the tip on permanently because the two epoxy components have not been blended at the base of the cartridge. This also helps to protect the epoxy in the cartridge from air exposure, humidity, and any other contamination. When the cartridge is used next, simply unscrew and replace the static mixing tip with a new one, prime the tip, and it is ready to use.
When dispensing without a static mixing tip: This method is a little more intricate, and attention to detail is imperative before the cartridge is opened the first time. Before removing the plug on the end of the cartridge, mark the plug and the cartridge with the orientation of the plug. After dispensing Thixo, clean the spout of the cartridge as well as possible without mixing the two components, then the plug can be replaced, but it is imperative that it is not accidentally switched so the hardener side is in the resin and vice versa.
