TotalBoat ThickSet Epoxy
- For semi-deep pour casting, filling, and molding applications
- Long working time to make adjustments and embed items
- Create a high-gloss finish, pour layers up to 2" deep
- Crystal-clear, UV-resistant formula that won't yellow
TotalBoat ThickSet Epoxy features a versatile formula for thicker coatings and deeper pours. Ideal for casting and molding applications, river tables, sculptures, live edge slab tables, bar and countertops, wall art, and more. Low viscosity and long working time minimize trapped bubbles and reduce heat for crystal-clear layers up to 2" deep for mold casting, and up to 1/2" deep for river tables. :contentReference[oaicite:1]{index=1}

Exothermic Reaction!
The cure of TotalBoat ThickSet Epoxy generates heat and can reach 200–300°F in mass.
Surface Preparation
- Surfaces must be clean, dry, and contaminant-free
- Do not use tack cloths
- Sand and wipe with approved solvent
Wood & Porous Surfaces
- Apply seal coat before flood coat
- Seal voids and cracks
- Sand after cure (80–120 grit)
- Prevents off-gassing bubbles
Application Conditions
- Ideal: 70°F, <60% humidity
- Working range: 65–75°F
- Cold = thick, bubbles
- Hot = fast cure, risk of yellowing/cracking
Dispensing & Mixing
- Mix ratio: 1:1 (volume) or 1.11:1 (weight)
- Do NOT alter ratio
- Mix only what can be used in ~20 minutes
- Max recommended mix: 1 gallon
Mixing Technique
- Mix 3–5 minutes, scrape sides and bottom
- Transfer and mix again
- Do not whip air
- Let sit briefly to release bubbles
Application
Coating Thickness
- Max 1/2" per coat
- Layer pours for thicker builds (4 hr between coats)
- Excess thickness causes heat defects
Small Castings
- Max 2" depth for ≤10 oz pours
- Layer for larger volumes
Working Time
- Pot life: ~10 minutes
- Working time: ~30 minutes
Pouring
- Coatings: pour in S-pattern, spread evenly
- Castings: pour slowly in one location
Bubble Removal
- Let sit 10 minutes
- Use heat gun/torch 6–8" above surface
- Do not overheat
Cure & Finish
- Tack-free: 6–8 hours
- Sandable: 24 hours
- Light use: 48 hours
- Full cure: 3–5 days :contentReference[oaicite:2]{index=2}
TotalBoat ThickSet Epoxy cures to a high-gloss finish and can be sanded and polished after full cure.
Troubleshooting
Bubbles
- Cold temps, thick pours, poor mixing, no seal coat
Fisheyes
- Caused by contamination
Improper Cure
- Wrong ratio, poor mixing, low temperature
Crystallization
- Warm to 125–140°F to restore
Storage
- Store 60–90°F
- Keep sealed
- Avoid freezing
Shelf Life: Minimum 1 year
