To ensure your safety, it's important to wear proper personal protection and follow a few best practices when cleaning up spilled epoxy resin, hardener, or mixed epoxy.
How to Clean Up Epoxy Resin: Epoxy resin is not water soluble, so you'll need to use acetone, denatured alcohol, or lacquer thinner to clean it up. You can also try vinegar or isopropyl alcohol (high % works best). Be sure to follow all the safety precautions on the container for any solvent you're using, and make sure the area is well ventilated. Rinse the area with fresh water when you're done cleaning.
How to Clean Up Epoxy Hardener: Epoxy hardener is easier to clean up, but it is more hazardous than epoxy resin. Before reaching for the solvents, try using warm, soapy water to clean up hardener. Otherwise, acetone, denatured alcohol, lacquer thinner, vinegar or isopropyl alcohol also work. Rinse the area with fresh water after cleaning.
How to Clean Up Mixed Epoxy (Resin + Hardener Combined): Clean up mixed epoxy with acetone, denatured alcohol, or lacquer thinner. After cleaning, rinse the area with fresh water.
IMPORTANT: Place rags used for clean up on top of an empty trash bin, in a safe place where they can dry with good ventilation, and away from any flammable sources. Do not dispose of rags until they are completely dry.
