Epoxy is strong and waterproof, making it ideal for aluminum boat repairs. To ensure success, proper surface prep is extremely important.
The aluminum surface must be clean, dry, and free of dirt, dust, grease, loose paint, oils, or other contaminants. Sandblast or sand the aluminum with 60-80 grit sandpaper within a 1-inch radius of the leak or repair area until the metal is shiny. Remove any sanding residue before applying epoxy.
