Epoxy resin and hardener components can be measured three ways: by volume, by weight, and by using a set of metered resin and hardener pumps available with some epoxy resin systems, such as West System, MAS, Entropy, and TotalBoat epoxy resins.
Pumps eliminate the guesswork and mess involved when measuring epoxy and hardener components by volume or weight, and give you a reliable cure every time.
To use the calibrated pumps, start by identifying the resin pump and the hardener pump.
Follow the manufacturer's instructions to mount the pumps directly on the resin and hardener containers. If necessary, trim the pumps first, as directed.
Before dispensing, push down and release the head of each pump several times until you get a steady stream of liquid, with no air pockets.
Dispense the resin and hardener into a clean, dry container. For every 1 full pump of resin, dispense 1 full pump of hardener. Mix THOROUGHLY for 2-3 minutes, taking care to scrape the sides and bottom of the container to blend the mixture completely.
A proper cure depends on using the exact recommended mix ratio. Adding more hardener to make the epoxy set faster will actually prevent it from curing properly.
