There are a few main differences that set TotalBoat High Performance 2:1 and Traditional 5:1 Epoxy systems apart, without getting into the chemistry of them.
TotalBoat High Performance 2:1 Epoxy Characteristics:
- Three different hardener speeds: Slow, Medium, Fast
- Should not form surface amine blush when cured
- Very clear, glossy surface
- Easy 2:1 (resin:hardener) mix ratio for all
- Works well with fillers, thickening agents, colorants
- Good tensile strength, less stiffness, works well with wood substrates because of this
- Common applications: Composite laminating, composite repairs, coating, castings (when applied in step-pouring), bonding, fairing
TotalBoat Traditional 5:1 Epoxy Characteristics
- Fast, Slow, Tropical (Extra slow for warm temperatures, 3:1 mix ratio), and Crystal Clear Hardeners (3:1) Mix Ratio
- Works well with fillers and thickening agents
- Fast, Slow, and Tropical will leave an amine blush on the surface after they have cured
- Crystal clear is for clear, glossy applications with no blush; clear-coat applications
- Higher tensile strength and stiffness than TotalBoat High Performance 2:1 Epoxy
- Mix ratio is 5:1 for the Fast and Slow, 3:1 for Tropical and Crystal Clear
- Common applications: Composite repair, composite laminating, bonding, structural composites
