What are the different types of nuts and what are they used for?

Coupling Nut

Used to fasten two male threads together.

Cap Nut

Also known as Acorn Nut. Cap nuts are finishing nuts that cover the end of the screw or bolt. They're used for decorative finish work.

Tee Nut

Tee nuts are designed to make it easy to add screw threads to wood assemblies. Tee Nuts have teeth that secure and lock them into the surface of the wood.

Castle Nut

These are the ultimate in lock nuts. Castle nuts have passageways machined into the head for cotter pins.

Hex Nut

A hex nut is used to tighten material down to a bolt or machine screw.

Lock Nut

Also known as an 'aircraft nut' or 'nylok nut'. It has a nylon insert which locks onto threads to prevent the nut from working loose.

Jam Nut

A jam nut is a low-profile hex nut. It's used when putting two nuts together or in tight quarters.

Wing Nut

A wing nut can be easily tightened and loosened by hand. Use wing nuts for light-duty assemblies that must be taken apart without tools.
